Below are some Idaho highlights from the 2016 Child and Teen NIS:
According to the 2016 Child National Immunization Survey, vaccination coverage for the primary seven vaccination series for Idaho children ages 19-35 months of age, was 73.9%.
-This is the highest level of coverage ever reported for Idaho through the annual survey
-Idaho’s childhood vaccination coverage for the primary series is above the national average of 70.7%
Idaho’s ranks 18th in the nation (out of 50 states) for primary seven vaccines vaccination coverage for children ages 19-35 months of age
Idaho had promising increases in vaccination coverage in both Rotavirus vaccination and Hepatitis A virus vaccination
-Rotavirus vaccination coverage increased from 74.5% in 2015 to 80.2% in 2016
-Hepatitis A virus vaccination coverage significantly increased to 67.1% in 2016 from 58.8% in 2015.
For the first time, Idaho not only reached, but exceeded CDC Healthy People 2020 goals for both Rotavirus and diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) vaccine coverage rates.
Most Idaho teens are getting the first dose of HPV vaccine.
-57.2% of Idaho teens aged 13-17 received at least one dose of HPV vaccine according to the 2016 Teen National Immunization Survey
Although most Idaho adolescents are getting their first dose of HPV vaccine, there continues to be many who are not completing the vaccination series, so there is still work to be done.
While the percentage of teenage girls in Idaho receiving at least one dose of HPV vaccine only slightly increased between 2015 and 2016, we are encouraged to see that in our teenage boys, there was a 10 percentage point increase in those receiving at least the one dose of HPV vaccine.
-In 2015 44.2% of Idaho teenage boys had received at least one dose of HPV vaccine.
-That percentage increased to 54.7% in 2016, according to the survey.
